So far in 2015, 63 officers have died in the line-of-duty. Of those, 28 were lost in vehicle-related incidents, 16 to gunfire and 19 to other causes, the majority of which were duty-related heart attacks or illness. The Preliminary FBI LEOKA Report

Each year the FBI produces the Law Enforcement Officers Killed and Assaulted (LEOKA) report. It's a valuable resource—particularly for trainers—because it provides a fairly detailed statistical overview.
