Responding to a call of an armed carjacking attempt, officers shot & killed an armed suspect

Police have identified the suspect as Jose Rodriguez.
Albuquerque police received a 911 call around 9:30 a.m. from someone about a failed carjacking in the 300 block of Pennsylvania NE.
Officers immediately started searching the area and found a man, matching the suspect’s description, a short time later near Central Avenue and Utah Street.
Police haven’t said what sparked the shooting, but police said Rodriguez was shot and killed at the scene. A gun was found near his body.
No police officers were injured in the shooting.
The two officers involved in the shooting have been placed on standard paid leave. Both have been with the department since 2001.
